Followers Call for Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the actress are urging that a individual who jumped a fence and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further response on Instagram.
A number of fans also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, winning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
