Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
