Several Affected as In-Flight Disturbance Strikes Delta Plane Arriving in Sydney, Australia

Delta Airlines reported the aircraft experienced "short-lived rough air" as it arrived at Sydney Airport.

Several people were hurt following a Delta Airlines flight originating in LA to Sydney experienced rough air this past Friday.

Delta Flight 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a company official stated. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.

Emergency medical services said they assessed five individuals, and transferred three of them to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that such as spinal discomfort and head pain. Those affected were between their 30s to 70s.

It is the latest incident of aircraft being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers pointing out that climate change is a significant contributor.

There were 245 people and 15 crew members on the aircraft, the official said, stating that the plane touched down "safely and normally" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.

Paramedics indicated they received a call just only 180 seconds before the plane touched down, and response teams were ready and waiting at the airport.

The reasons turbulence is becoming more frequent - and often stronger.
