Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
