The co-founders behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the company alongside his partner, announced that he will personally create the controversial product within an individual collection showcasing issues the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing conflict between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods giant which has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media that he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for public suggestions regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that was first established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues which the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years with the organization, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy so that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told journalists.
