The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Each team has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
