The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
