Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Incident as Authorities Press On With Search for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
