According to a high-ranking defense official, the US military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Actions

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military presence.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amidst Pressure

The government has faced growing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
