The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the globally famous video game Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential game designer passed away following his car crashed and burst into flames on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, according to.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and we stand with his family and friends, those closest to him, and all those touched by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
